short film research: Whittling Away (mystery)

The film I decided to watch as my second short film research is Whittling Away which is the genre mystery. The short film was about a daughter who left home while lying to her father. Her dad was frantically clooking for her and asked his mother for advice which is when he made a realization. Due to his not paying attention to his daughter, he did not know much about her, so it would be difficult to find her. When he stopped to take a look around his daughter's room he then realized that she really liked the lake. That gave him the clue to go to the lake and see if she was there. That is when he found his daughter at the lake safe and sound. In this short film there was a character who was there but never revealed their face. This gave it a big sense of mystery because the mom's face was never shown only a clip of her fidgeting with a necklace. Also when the girl arrived at the lake there was a frame shown of blood falling into the water making it seem like the girl harmed herself. This left the viewer questioning why such a thing happened. Then, in the end, the truth was revealed about what she was actually up to. This would be a good feature to add to my short film to add more mystery and suspense. Showing a misleading clip and ending it with a lot of twists would be cool. As well as keeping some characters a mystery is also a good idea.
